A lot of negative, dismissive, and gaslighting language and tropes that are sexist, racist, ableist, and more can be flung at us when need and ask for more collective care with cleaning up and housework. Nag, mothering, bad partner/wife, hysterical, anxious, crazy, dirty, messy, emotional, unskillful, animal-like, immature, boy, slob, anal, neat freak, and disappointment — this is just a small, small fraction of the ugly, harmful, and hateful language and attitudes that help maintain a lack of shared co-accountable practices for cleaning up. What is an oppressive or negative idea that you've been harmed by regarding your need for cleanliness? In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
