The practice of returning to the beginning, to a renewed sense of possibility, is itself possible because we left the starting place and went off and away to other places. To begin again, our hearts must have already felt a range of feelings, sensations, joys, and aches and pains. We must have lived in order to be reborn. In other words, beginner's heart exists because we are not frozen in time, unfeeling and unaware. As such, it may at times seem strange or hard to have gratitude for our heartaches, and yet we maybe can find a kind of gratitude in what we have lived as a pathway home to presence. What's a challenging experience your heart has had that you don't regret and in fact appreciate? [image description: A dismayed heart looks upon itself where its own heart looks back with an equally dismayed expression. Both the heart and the inner heart sigh. Text reads: "Beginner's heart has been broken again and again."]
