"May your business fail AND may my business fail, so that when you ask me for financial help I can't give it to you!"
"May all of your teeth fall out except for one AND may that one have a tooth ache!"
Maybe us Jews have a lot of reasons to be angry with the universe. To me it kind of makes sense that modern Hebrew has come up with a word that tries to transform and transfigure some of this anger into positive empathy, a word that gets translated in English as "to not begrudge." We're doing our best to not begrudge! We're trying to change and evolve our pain into more pleasure all around. How have your cultural and historical experiences shaped your practices and path in cultivating universal joy?
