Protecting voting rights is protecting free speech. Calls to #RestoreTheVRA (Voting Rights Act of 1965) and to federalize elections are collective attempts to protect voting rights from state-based voter suppression. While white supremacist opposition to the free speech inherent in universal national voting rights and voting access continues to churn out stomach-turning editorial headlines like, "Nationalizing U.S. Elections — Obama's Most Dangerous Idea?", "H.R. I: Federalizing Elections and Chilling Speech," and "Nancy Pelosi Is Trying to Federalize California's Bad Election Laws," right now we can support legislation (with the help of GovTrack.us) that would bring back voting protection at the national level. How else can you honor the memory of John Lewis and take a stand for universal voting rights and for free speech? MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2019. On this day 2018. Celebrating two years of daily cartoons. Text reads: "Voting is free speech."]

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
