Some people say that the word fine is an acronym, and that when people respond to questions about how they're doing with "fine," the word actually stands for fucked up, insecure, neurotic, and evasive. Maybe the word fine means a lot of different things in a lot of different situations — even more things than these other four words describe. Maybe we come together actively in a dance of implied meanings in social contexts in ways that at least in part give us permission in a given moment to more or less avoid certain topics. What is something the word fine has meant for you when connecting with someone else about how you're doing? [image description: Two hearts with upset, angry, and distressed affect stand facing each other and talking. One heart asks, "What's wrong," and the other heart answers, "I'm fine!" The first heart responds, "Ok, fine," and the other heart repeats, "fine." Text reads: "Fine-tuning."]
