Definitions are not static from person to person and how we interpret and use words matters. What is your definition of racism? [image description: Four hearts to the right are each at a different position on a giant set of stairs. The heart at the lowest level is partly out of the frame, is frowning, and has two labels across it, "BLACK" and "TRANS." The two hearts above that are frowning slightly. The lower one is labeled "IMMIGRANT" and "WOMAN" and the next one up is labeled "WORKER" and "OLD." The top heart is smiling and is labeled "WHITE" and "MAN." Two more hearts stand on the ground, but higher than the lowest heart. One of the hearts on the ground has a quizzical facial expression. The other heart on the ground holds a pen or marker and says, "That'll keep things in place." Text reads: "FOMO formalization of missing out."] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2020. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
