Trying to end our black-and-white thinking in some perfect way where we are able to fully reside in gray areas, where the gray is its own monolith, may be a sneaky kind of black-and-white thinking. In truth, as we learn to live more in the gray areas of life, we will certainly still have moments or speckles of black-and-white thinking that may still be problematic, may be innocuous, and at times may even be important, good, or necessary. What is an example of black-and-white thinking that you feel serves you? How do you practice having compassion for yourself when you revert to old patterns or moments of black-and-white thinking? [image description: A heart with a gentle smile holds up a heart that is speckled red, black, white, and gray. Nearby another heart looks at the speckled heart with an expression of awe. Text reads: "Cinereous."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 11/24 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
