Sometimes we find mysterious ways to disassociate from others. Like dissociating mentally, disassociating socially can happen in ways that are not conscious or intentional on our part. We may in fact yearn to understand how or why we seem to keep separating ourselves from others. We may worry that we are somehow doomed to these social patterns of disconnection, and yet we may also seek help in shifting our thoughts and behaviors to become more conscious and capable of remaining close to people and actually building greater intimacy. What has helped you notice and shift patterns of unconscious social disassociation? [image description: A heart stands facing out and separated from an enclosure of many smiling hearts nearby. The lone heart as a somewhat concerned facial expression and thinks to itself, "How did I get out here??" It says out loud to itself, "I'm alone." Text reads: "fomo — FEAR OF MEANDERING OUT"] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 12/6 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
