We have a lot of different words for emotions, feelings, and affective states. And there are lots of theories to help us describe and move with the space between thinking thoughts and sensing sensations. In this between space where we experience some other kind of awareness and awakeness, where we feel deeply, it may be difficult to quantify the experiences we're having in universal ways. Indeed, across languages some emotion words do not easily translate. Again, perhaps this is because our emotional knowings are just by definition not rational or physical. And so, it may be that sometimes we cannot explain or measure what we feel. Sometimes we may simply have to feel it. Take a moment and let yourself feel whatever you're feeling emotionally right now. If you feel inspired to express something, express it in whatever way is right for you. MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2019. On this day 2018. Celebrating two years of daily cartoons. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
