After the death of a loved one, Jewish traditions call the first thirty days shloshim. During this specific period of time, it is accepted that the bereaved can return to some but not all of life's everyday activities. The shloshim period supporters mourners in staying present with and connected to their emotions about and relationship to the deceased. When a loved one dies, what helps you stay present with the range of feelings you may be having? [image description: Two hearts, one with a single, wild braid of hair, both with slight frowns, face each other and hold hands. Text reads: "Day 9 of Mourning" and "Learn the term shloshim from a friend."] #MindfulHearts RETROSPECTIVE ~ 7/9 ~ on this day 2021 2020 2019 2018 ~ celebrating four years of daily cartoons ~

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
