Just as we practice self-compassion, we can learn to have more self-compersion. We can give ourselves permission to have joy and for our joy to multiply and last. A mantra may help, like the following: "May I be happy. May what brings me joy continue and return to me." What would one of your self-compersion mantras be? [image description: A solitaire bird perches on an evergreen tree branch covered in blue berries. The solitaire holds one berry in its mouth and has the anthropomorphic thought, "You must learn to rest in what you enjoy." In the distance, a heart with a quizzical facial expression stands on the ground looking up at the solitaire. Text reads: "Solitaire Meditation."] #MindfulHearts retrospective. On this day 2020. In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
