Though we generally show up to therapy because we want to feel better, the process itself can at first and at times be painful. We may interpret the pain as the therapy not working. And at times, the pain may in fact not be worth it to us or it may indeed be a real indicator that the therapy is not working for us at that time or in that way. Other times, we may experience being with different kinds of pain that are transformed in us through the therapeutic process. We may find ourselves in new landscapes of feeling on the other side of our journey with or through pain. And those new landscapes may simply not be perceptible while we are experiencing the painful part. What's an experience of pain that you've had in therapy or in life that resolved in a transformative experience? ~ ~ ~ #TherapyCan

In response to the much-needed call for #COVIDCompassion, #MindfulHearts offers the sister chant of #QuarantineCompersion.
The art and skill of understanding the suffering of others and feeling and acting on the impulse to lessen that suffering goes hand in hand with the art and skill of feeling and acting on the impulse to nourish joy everywhere. May we all have moments of joy that grow and extend through the times we live in and beyond. |
