We may have learned that in Western Linnaean taxonomy, the category above genus and below order is the family. What we maybe didn't learn is that still today taxonomists don't have strict rules for how a family is described or defined and may argue with each other through scholarly publications on the subject with no clear, broad consensus. From here, we maybe can remember that even within science metaphor is an imperfect and human tool for studying and understanding our natural world. Among plants and animals, what is something that matters to you about the term family? [image description: A heart walks up to a group of bright and healthy flowers standing tall on a small hill. Text reads: "This is a family."]
